Will Summer Bring an End to Entertaining?

Outdoor fall harvest party

Today is the first day of fall, but the end of summer doesn’t have to mean the end of entertaining with friends and family. Some hesitate to think about fall because of the dreaded season that follows. Embrace this beautiful season and enjoy the outdoors as much as you can.

There are so many fall activities to enjoy. Gather a small group together and head to your local apple orchard. Most orchards these days have a variety of activities for all ages to enjoy. Corn mazes are also a fun group activity that normally ends with hot chocolate and hayrides.

If you want to stay closer to home with a little imaginative fall interior design and accessories from American Country, you can find your inspiration for the perfect outdoor harvest party.

Fall Parties Means Fall Snacks

Hosting a harvest party is a great outdoor activity. You can control who you invite how many people and how long you want it to be. Extend your home’s fall theme with the type of food and drinks served at your dinner party.

Having a selection of hot dishes with some fall favorite desserts like apple crisp, and pumpkin pie will soothe the soul. Arrange snacks, like toasted pumpkin seeds or popcorn, on oval wood and metal trays within easy reach of your guests.

Perhaps you might model your dinner menu after fall favorites and serve drinks, such as mulled cider with cinnamon sticks, to get your guests in the mood to celebrate the new season.

Decorating With Fall Accents

You can get many fall theme ideas at Better Homes and Gardens.  Since you’ve worked so hard to incorporate elements of the outdoors into your decor, your home will lend itself very well to fall interior design.

The spicy tones of fall and comforting accessories of a bountiful harvest can create amazing centerpieces. The fall colors help us to feel calm and sitting around a table with our friends and family can bring back cherished memories.

Add to the centerpieces by decorating with unique serving dishes. Use fall doormats/rugs to guide your guests to your dining table. Decorative napkins and table runners can be a great addition to your table decor.

From the moment your guest knocks on your door they should feel excitement and joy about the fall experience they are about to receive. Our extra-large Harvest Wreath can set the stage either on a door or a centerpiece on the table.

Create a special glow to the evening by using  Hurricane Glass Cylinders which can be filled with small pumpkins or candles. Pumpkins can also be used as centerpieces. Buy small pumpkins and add them to each place setting to add to the harvest theme.

Keep the Party Going at After Dark

Decorative outdoor and indoor lanterns

We all know the days are getting shorter. It seems like almost every day it gets darker earlier and earlier. With all your hard work and preparation make the evening last as long as you want it to.

Lanterns are perfect for this. Light up the night or add a bit of ambiance to your setting with a variety of size lanterns. Keep a stash of candles or buy battery-operated lanterns for less of a hassle. Decorate around your lanterns with fall flowers. If you don’t want the expense try using decorative artificial flowers.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. With the winter coming soon enjoy as many activities outdoors as possible. For more ideas of fall activities check our blog post “2020 Outdoor Activities for Summer and Fall”.
